Actor/Singer/Musician/Sound Designer
Gabbay Madu is an Afro-Latina performer born in Montego Bay, Jamaica to Nigerian and Cuban parents. She began her career in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin where she attended Wayland Academy and participated in her first production, Blithe Spirit, pushing her to pursue a career in Performance . She obtained B.A in Theatre and Computer Science from Monmouth College where she participated in productions such as A Child's Christmas in Wales, The Real Inspector Hound, Dead Man's Cellphone, The Revolutionists, and The Broadway Musical Little Women. She is currently pursuing an MFA in Acting from the University of Arkansas- Fayetteville. She was an Irene Ryan Semi-Finalist and is a Four-Time Nominee, a Regional Finalist and the Alternate Winner of the Musical Theatre Intensive (MTI) Open Jar Institute National Musical Theatre Scholarship in 2022. She also read for the lead in the staged reading Displace by Zoha Bharwani, which won an award for Playwriting at The Kennedy Centre American College Theatre Festival- Region 3 (KCACTF) in 2020. In 2023, she competed once again at KCACTF and was a regional finalist for Dance in The Musical Theatre Intensive(MTI) as well as in The Design, Technology and Management Expo. She received the RED in DTM award, The Marvin Sims Fellowship Nomination and is the Honorable Mention recipient of the KCACTF Award for Theatrical Excellence for her Sound Design in Romeo and Juliet. |
Gabbay has Stage Managed, Sound Designed and Assistant Directed for shows such as Gruesome Playground Injuries , A Christmas Carol, Black Mountain and Dead Man's Cellphone.
In the summers, she takes any opportunities she can to work with young or likeminded artists, as a Counselor at the Interlochen Center for the Arts. In the summer of 2022, she interned as an Assistant Stage Manager at the Indianapolis Shakespeare Company and attended the Open Jar Institutes Summer Intensive Program in New York as a means of further delving into the world of Theatre. In the summer of 2023 she interned at Florida Studio Theatre in Sarasota, Florida as an Acting Apprentice. She believes that there are truly no small roles. Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship / 2021, 2022
The Irene Ryan Acting Scholarships provide recognition, honor, and financial assistance to outstanding student performers wishing to pursue further education. The Irene Ryan Foundation awards sixteen regional and two national scholarships annually. One nominee and partner from every region will be invited to the national festival and the nominee will receive a $500 scholarship. The runner-up in each region will receive a $500 scholarship, but will not attend the national festival to audition for the national scholarship. Musical Theatre Intensive / 2022
The Musical Theatre Intensive (MTI) celebrates and fosters outstanding musical theatre students from across Region 3. The program offers educational opportunities at the Festival for both students and faculty to further their knowledge and appreciation of this type of theatre. Selected performers will be offered the chance to work hands-on with Musical Theatre professionals and participate in a cabaret performance to be held at the end of the week.
